A significant milestone was reached today by the FAA’s Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) Group, when LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in New York City became the 100th airport to be activated onto the Direct-entry Digital NOTAM System, commonly referred to as NOTAM Manager. CGH played a role in developing the system, which has been very successful in every deployment across the nation.

The use of digital NOTAMs is another milestone in implementing the NextGen vision for FAA. The new system, Federal NOTAM System (FNS), is an advanced data driven system built with the latest technologies and standards. NOTAM Manager not only improves the safety, efficiency, and reliability of the National Airspace System (NAS), it also leads the way for international collaboration and information exchange.

The first airport to actively use the digital NOTAMs system was Atlantic City on April 20, 2010. After over a year of testing the system at 10 select airports, new activations began in earnest on August 28, 2011. Airports use NOTAM Manager (NM) to directly enter NOTAMs for their airport surface conditions into the United States NOTAM System (USNS), sending their latest information to the flying public in a matter of seconds.
