RTCA Outstanding Leader Award to Dr. Mutuel

UPDATE: Dr. Mutuel will speak and participate in the 2014 National Systems, Software and Airborne Electronic Hardware Standardization Conference, being held in Los Angeles from September 23 to 25, 2014.

Laurence H. Mutuel, Ph.D., Senior Principal Engineer at CGH Technologies, Inc. for the Federal Aviation Administration’s Software and Digital Systems, was recognized by RTCA, Inc. (the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics) as a 2013 Outstanding Leader at the RTCA 2014 Global Aviation Symposium on June 4, 2014. The RTCA recognizes special committee chairs and/or other RTCA participants who serve in leadership roles. Dr. Mutuel received her award for Outstanding Leadership for Unmanned (UAS) Operational and Functional Requirements and Safety Objectives (OFRSO) for the capture of functional requirements supporting the definition of MASPS-type requirements at the UAS level, in Guidance Document SC-203: Unmanned Aircraft Systems DO-344: Volume 1 & 2.

Laurence has over 18 years of experience in avionics for both defense and civil aviation. She earned a M.S. and a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1996 and 2000, respectively, for her work on UAS fault-tolerant mission systems. She currently serves as Principal Engineer for FAA’s Software and Digital Systems program, addressing various issues in certification of software and complex electronic hardware, as well as cybersecurity. She is also a Senior Systems Engineer for CGH Technologies, Inc. on the NextGen’s NAV Lean program to upgrade FAA’s access and distribution of Aeronautical Information. Dr. Mutuel is an active contributor to several standards with RTCA, SAE and AEEC.
